Reno Judge Charles "Chuck" Weller may be sued by critics in Class Action

In the aftermath of Darren Mack's criminal trial, supporters and critics of Judge Chuck Weller are coming out in opposing forces with proposed ads and lawsuits that praise him as an honorable jurist who was victimized when shot last year and accuse him of being an unethical abuser of power. A group of local lawyers who practice in front of Weller in family court are gathering signatures for an advertisement that criticizes the media's coverage of Weller, and praises his work and his "integrity, professionalism and thoughtfulness." "We think he's gotten a really bad deal," said Reno family court lawyer Marilyn York, one of the promoters of the Weller ad, which is slated to be run in the form of a letter "to the citizens of Washoe County." "He was being made out to be a monster," she said Thursday, referring to the harsh comments made about Weller by the jurors in the Mack trial. "He needs to know that he's got support out there because all he's hearing is negative." Meanwhile, another group has posted plans for a class-action lawsuit against Weller on the Internet site Craigslist and have started a Web site looking for people who want to join in, claiming he abused his position as a judge and caused "unnecessary emotional and financial stress."

Municipal Court Judge George R. Korpita arrested for Drunk Driving

Morris County's top judge directed Municipal Court Judge George R. Korpita on Wednesday to disqualify himself from hearing any drunken or careless driving cases -- at least until his own DWI matter is resolved.

Korpita, 47, the municipal court judge in Dover, Rockaway Borough and Victory Gardens, was charged with DWI and careless driving on Route 46 in Roxbury early Tuesday. A motorist called police around 2 a.m. to report that a Chrysler did not budge from its stopped position at a traffic light on Route 46.

Federal Judge Henry Harold Kennedy to White House: You Must Stop Destroying E-Mails

WASHINGTON - A federal judge Monday ordered the White House to preserve copies of all its e-mails, a move that Bush administration lawyers had argued strongly against.

U.S. District Judge Henry Kennedy directed the Executive Office of the President to safeguard the material in response to two lawsuits that seek to determine whether the White House has destroyed e-mails in violation of federal law.

NJ Courts need more Robes

It's gotten to be a regular drill for state Superior Court Judge Daniel Mecca. Every Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, judges summon people who filed civil lawsuits and are ready for trial to the courthouse in Hackensack. Then these people -- along with their lawyers and expert witnesses who get paid no matter what -- sit and wait. All too often, Mecca and his fellow judges wind up sending some of them home.
