Municipal Court Judge George R. Korpita arrested for Drunk Driving Morris County's top judge directed Municipal Court Judge George R. Korpita on Wednesday to disqualify himself from hearing any drunken or careless driving cases -- at least until his own DWI matter is resolved.
Korpita, 47, the municipal court judge in Dover, Rockaway Borough and Victory Gardens, was charged with DWI and careless driving on Route 46 in Roxbury early Tuesday. It's gotten to be a regular drill for state Superior Court Judge Daniel Mecca. Every Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, judges summon people who filed civil lawsuits and are ready for trial to the courthouse in Hackensack. Then these people -- along with their lawyers and expert witnesses who get paid no matter what -- sit and wait. All too often, Mecca and his fellow judges wind up sending some of them home.
